A short car drive from the cottage is Landkey, a pretty North Devon village with a handy convenience store, a post office, a pub and a tea room. Just beyond Landkey is Swimbridge, another village with its own pub and small shop.
Larger shops, supermarkets and various places to eat can be found in nearby Barnstaple, North Devon’s largest town. This pretty market town has a rich history, which can be seen in its pannier market or museum. The town is also home to a leisure and tennis centre, a theatre and a multi-screen cinema. The River Taw runs through the town and is perfect for scenic riverside walks, alternatively cyclists of any age and ability can take advantage of the excellent Tarka Trail, a largely traffic free pathway that uses the former railway line, which goes all the way to Bideford along the river before heading in land to Meeth near Dartmoor.
Further afield, guests can unwind in beautiful seaside villages such as Appledore and Instow, hop on board the MS Oldeburg and set sail for Lundy Island from either Ilfracombe or Bideford, or see where Exmoor meets the sea at Lynton and Lynmouth. North Devon really does have something to offer all its visitors.
If you are looking for a day at the beach, Woolacombe, Croyde, Saunton and Westward Ho! are around a 30 minute drive from the cottage and provide excellent settings for water sports such as surfing, coasteering and stand-up paddleboarding. The award-winning beaches are patrolled by lifeguards from Easter through to October and great for families with small children. Smaller beaches can be found dotted around the North Devon coastline and perfect for those looking for a more peaceful day at the beach.
